If your Apple Studio Display isn't functioning correctly, try these steps:
- Allow the accessory:
- Thunderbolt monitors like the Studio Display need to be allowed as accessories on your MacBook.
- Refer to the article "Why aren't my dock or adapters working with my MacBook?" in our help center.
- Update the firmware:
- The latest firmware versions are 17 and 16.4, which include important improvements.
- To check your current version:
a. Press and hold the Option key
b. Click Apple menu > System Information
c. Click Graphics/Displays
d. Look for "Display Firmware Version" in the Studio Display section
- How to update:
- Ensure your Mac is running macOS Monterey 12.3 or later
- Go to Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update (or System Preferences > Software Update on macOS Monterey)
- If an update is available, click "Update Now"
- When ready, click "Restart" in the notification
- After updating:
- Unplug the Studio Display from power for at least 30 seconds
- Plug it back in and test if the issue persists
- New features in recent updates:
- Firmware 17: Adds camera zoom, recenter, and manual framing (requires macOS Sonoma 14+)
